Spring Rapid Open Notes!

Hello competitors!

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone by 9:45 AM tomorrow. Doors open at 9 AM for registration and confirmation. We have 27 registered players as of right now and expect a few walk-ups. If you have not emailed me your USCF or played at the club before, please do so in the morning OR check-in at the desk ASAP so we can get you in our system.

REMEMBER, THIS IS A USCF RATED EVENT. YOU MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE AND VALID USCF MEMBERSHIP TO PLAY.

Event and location info; plenty of parking in the lot and on the street. Gas station down the street for snacks but no grocery store within walking distance; bring your own snacks if desired. Water will be provided on-site but bring a water bottle if possible.

Events Page

Your TDs will be Kyle Boddy and Matthew Duran. A few notes here ahead of time:

  • Prize schedule will be posted after round one.
  • Prizes will be paid via Venmo/Paypal by Sunday morning or written check within 14 days.
  • The acoustics of the room aren’t great, so please be quiet. That said, we are not responsible for keeping the room dead silent, and to that end, we allow headphones/earbuds or earplugs. Bring them if you are bothered by light noise.
  • Clocks, boards, pieces are all provided. Bring your own clocks if you like, however, as the lower number tables have blitz clocks.
5 rounds of G/15+10 as promised with a lunch break; info is at the link above and will be posted before Round One as well.
  • This is USCF Rated, meaning we’re playing by the book. Annotation is NOT required, but touch move rule is in effect amongst all the standard USCF rules. Announcements will be made tomorrow morning before the tournament. Pause the clock and call for an arbiter if you have any issues.

You can email your USCF ID or any questions to me at kyle@southsoundchess.com.

Both Matthew and I will be on-site at 9 AM. If you have complications with your USCF registration or questions for the TDs, please arrive early to iron it out.

Let’s have fun! Thanks for ringing in the one year anniversary of the South Sound Chess Club.

Results from Rapid Quads – March 14th, 2024

12 players showed up on a Thursday night south of Seattle for some free, USCF-rated Rapid Quads! Turnout is improving as the weather gets better.

Players featured FM Peter Yu in our top quad along with another 1900+ rated player, a middle quad ranging from 900-1200 in rating, and many new players in the lower quad.

Players of all skill level represented and neither TD Kyle Boddy or Matthew Duran had to volunteer and donate ratings points!
